Have you ever heard a song so good and speaks deeply into your soul that you just had to quit your job? Well, this was how Ray LaMontagne began his career. The reclusive singer was awakened by Stephen Still's “Treetop Flyer” on his alarm clock one morning. He missed work that day to find the record, traded his van for a vintage Martin acoustic guitar, and never looked back. One would have thought that such stories exist only in the movies. However, LaMontagne is a testament that following your dreams can lead to something special. In this case, it’s LaMontagne’s two-decade career in music.

The singer-songwriter from New Hampshire released his first album, Trouble, in 2004. The album featured singles “Burn,” “Trouble,” and “All the Wild Horses.” Some of the tracks from the record were featured in TV shows and films like Grey's Anatomy, Rescue Me, Devil Wears Prada, and The Town. LaMontagne’s songs in the soundtracks led to the album charting two years after its release. Trouble was later certified platinum in the U.K. and gold in the U.S.

His success story may sound like it happened overnight. But LaMontagne had paid his dues. The singer spent years performing as a filler or opening act in local clubs before landing gigs at major festivals like Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo Music Festival.

Today, LaMontagne has eight studio albums to his name, three extended plays, and 10 Top 10 singles on the Adult Album Alternative Chart.
